Description

The ARP status-detect function is disabled when the IP address newly assigned to the interface and the IP address of ARP status-detect are in different network segments, or the IP addresses are the same.

Parameters

Parameter Name Parameter Meaning
InterfaceName Indicates the name of an interface.

Possible Causes

1. Enable the ARP status-detect function and assign an IP address to an interface. Then assign a new IP address to the interface. If you find that the ARP status-detect function is disabled, possible causes are as follows:

2. Enable the ARP status-detect function on an interface, and then assign an IP address to the interface. If you find that the ARP status-detect function is disabled, possible causes are as follows:

(1) The IP address newly assigned to the interface and the IP address of ARP status-detect is in different network segments.

(2) The IP address newly assigned to the interface and the IP address of ARP status-detect are the same.

Procedure

  1. The IP address of ARP status-detect is the IP address of the interface on a directly connected device or on a device that is connected through a switch.
    1. If the IP address newly assigned to the interface and the IP address of ARP status-detect are in different network segments, check whether the IP address of the remote interface is newly assigned, and whether the status of the remote interface need be detected any more. If the status of the remote interface need be detected, reconfigure the ARP status-detect function; if the status of the remote interface need not be detected, no configuration is needed.
    2. If the IP address newly assigned to the interface and the IP address of ARP status-detect are the same, check whether the subnet mask of the newly assigned IP address is changed. Then check whether the IP address of the remote interface is newly assigned, and whether the status of the remote interface need be detected any more. If the status of the remote interface need be detected, reconfigure the ARP status-detect function; if the status of the remote interface need not be detected, no configuration is needed.
