MCAST/3/ENTRY

Message

MCAST/3/ENTRY:Failed to set forwarding table. (GroupIp=[STRING], GroupMac=[STRING], SourceIp=[STRING], VlanId=[ULONG], Operation=[STRING], Result=[ULONG])

Description

Failed to deliver multicast forwarding entries to the chip.

Parameters

Parameter Name Parameter Meaning

GroupIp

Group IP address.

GroupMac

Group MAC address.

SourceIp

Source IP address.

VlanId

Inbound VLAN ID.

Operation

Failed to add or delete multicast forwarding entries.

Result

Operation result.

Possible Causes

Cause 1: The multicast forwarding entry being deleted does not exist on the chip.

Cause 2: Failed to apply for the index resource.

Procedure

  1. If this log is generated when a nonexistent entry is deleted from the chip, this log is informational only, and no action is required. Otherwise, go to step 2.
  2. Run the display multicast forwarding-table command to check the Layer 3 forwarding table or run the display l2-multicast forwarding-table command to check Layer 2 multicast forwarding table. Determine whether the number of multicast entries exceeds the product specification. For the product specifications, log in to Huawei official website to download the product brochure or product feature list for channel (if your account is unauthorized, contact Huawei local office).

    • If the number of multicast forwarding entries exceeds the product specification, go to step 3.
    • Otherwise, the application for the index resource may fail. Go to step 4.

  3. Run the reset multicast forwarding-table [ group-address | source-address ] command to delete redundant Layer 3 multicast forwarding entries. Or run the reset igmp-snooping group vlan [ vlan-id ] group-address [ group-address ] command to delete redundant Layer 2 multicast forwarding entries. After the multicast forwarding entries are deleted, reconfigure the multicast service. If the log persists, go to step 4.
  4. Collect log information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel. You can collect diagnostic information using the display diagnostic-information command.
  5. Check the Result=[ULONG] field. Result=21 indicates that the number of multicast forwarding entries reaches the maximum or a hash collision occurs. Result=22 indicates that the multicast forwarding entry is not found. Result=23 indicates that the multicast forwarding entry already exists. If the preceding return values are displayed in the log, the multicast service may be abnormal. In this case, contact technical support personnel. If the Result value is 21, the possible causes are as follows: 1) There are too many multicast forwarding entries on the device, which cause a hash collision and the failure to deliver the multicast forwarding entry. (2) There are too many ARP entries on the device, which cause a hash collision and the failure to deliver the multicast forwarding entry. The technical support engineer may run the set multicast forwarding-table optimization-mode command to set the storage mode of Layer 3 multicast forwarding entries to optimization mode. When this command is executed or deleted, the system prompts the user to restart the device. If the user does not respond to the system prompt, the system returns to the system view after timeout and does not restart.
