Description

MGMD/3/INSTLIMIT:OID [oid] Membership report message is discarded because the global IGMP or MLD group membership limitation is exceeded in this instance. (GroupAddressType=[integer], SrcAddr=[binary], GrpAddr=[binary], LimitCnt=[integer], InstanceName=[string])

New members failed to join the IGMP or MLD group because the number of global IGMP or MLD entries in a single instance reached the limit.

Parameters

Name Meaning

oid

Indicates the MIB object ID of the alarm.

GroupAddressType

Indicates the inetAddressType of group address. The value can be:
  • 1: IPv4 address

  • 2: IPv6 address

SrcAddr

Indicates the source address of the Report message.

GrpAddr

Indicates the group address of the Report message.

LimitCnt

Indicates the limit of global IGMP or MLD entries in the current instance.

InstanceName

Indicates the instance name.

Impact on the System

After the number of global entries of a single instance reaches the limit, new members fail to join the IGMP or MLD group, and corresponding entries cannot be established. In this case, terminal users cannot receive the desired on-demand video programs.

Possible Causes

After the limit to the number of global IGMP or MLD entries in a single instance was set on the switch, when the number of global IGMP or MLD entries reached the limit, new members failed to join the IGMP or MLD group and the corresponding trap was generated.

Global IGMP or MLD entries include the (*,G) entries, (S,G) entries, and entries in the SSM-mapping table in the current instance.

Procedure

  1. Run the display igmp [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] group verbose command or the display mld group verbose command to check whether the statistical number of IGMP or MLD entries is equal to or greater than the limit value in the current instance.

    • If so, go to Step 2.

    • If not, go to Step 4.

  2. Check the network status and judge whether more IGMP or MLD entries can be maintained in the current instance in the network.

    • If so, go to Step 3.

    • If not, go to Step 5. This situation indicates that multicast services in the network are saturated and therefore no more IGMP or MLD entries can be added. You are advised to reduce multicast services or deploy a higher-performance device as an alternative to the current device.

  3. Run the limit number command in the IGMP view or the limit number command in the MLD view to increase the limit value of the IGMP or MLD entries in the current instance. Then, check whether the trap persists.

    • If so, go to Step 1.

    • If not, go to Step 5.

  4. Collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.
  5. End.
