As shown in Figure 1, when the switch deployed with the ring network protocols (STP, RSTP, MSTP, SEP, ERPS, RRPP, VBST, and Smart Link) performs a link switchover due to a link fault, the switch needs to learn ARP entries again. This deteriorates Layer 3 convergence performance of IP traffic. If the switch is enabled to perform Layer 2 forwarding for IP traffic during the switchover, the convergence performance can be improved. By default, the switch is enabled to perform Layer 2 forwarding for IP traffic during a ring network switchover.
Only the S5720-HI, S5730-HI, S5731-H, S5731-S, S5731S-H, S5731S-S, S5732-H, S6720-HI, S6730-H, S6730S-H, S6730-S, and S6730S-S support this function.

The switch is enabled to perform Layer 2 forwarding for IP traffic during a ring network switchover.
By default, the switch is enabled to perform Layer 2 forwarding for IP traffic during a ring network switchover.
After the switch is enabled to perform Layer 2 forwarding for IP traffic, it will forward the IP traffic in broadcast mode when the links are switched. Therefore, the IP traffic increases within a short time.
