The Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) protocol maintains group memberships between Layer 3 multicast devices and user hosts. Two versions are available: v1 and v2. After an MLD version is configured on a Layer 2 device, the device can process MLD messages of the specified version. Generally, a Layer 2 device should use the same MLD version as the upstream Layer 3 multicast device. If MLD is disabled on the Layer 3 multicast device, the Layer 2 device must use an MLD snooping version later than or the same as that on user hosts.
If user hosts in a VLAN support different MLD versions, the Layer 2 device must be able to process the MLD packets of all these versions.
