Summary of OSPF Configuration Tasks

This section provides a summary of OSPF configuration tasks. Perform configurations according to your particular requirements.

Table 1 describes OSPF configuration tasks.

Table 1 OSPF configuration tasks

Scenario

Description

Task

Configuring Basic OSPF Functions

Basic OSPF functions must be configured before other OSPF functions can be implemented.

Configuring Basic OSPF Functions

Configuring Session Parameters for OSPF Neighbor or Adjacency Relationships

Configuring OSPF Attributes on Different Types of Networks

Configuring OSPF Areas

  • In a stub area, an area border router (ABR) does not transmit autonomous system (AS) external routes, reducing route entries on the ABR as well as the amount of routing information to be transmitted.

  • An NSSA is a special type of OSPF area. Similar to a stub area, an NSSA does not transmit external routes from other areas. Different from a stub area, an NSSA imports AS external routes and transmits them in the entire AS (a stub area does not import AS external routes).

Adjusting OSPF Route Selection

To implement flexible application of OSPF on the live network, you can adjust OSPF parameters to control OSPF routing.

Controlling OSPF Routing Information

To implement network requirements, you can configure OSPF parameters to control advertisement and receipt of OSPF routes.

Controlling OSPF Routing Information

Controlling the Convergence Speed of OSPF Routes

You can increase the convergence speed of OSPF routes to enable OSPF to quickly respond to changes in the network topology, or reduce the convergence speed to decrease the impact caused by route flapping over OSPF networks and relieve loads on devices.

Configuring OSPF Fast Convergence

Improving Reliability of an OSPF Network

  • If you configure BFD for OSPF in a process or on an interface, the link status can be rapidly detected. This allows fault detection to complete in milliseconds, speeding up OSPF convergence.
  • To avoid traffic interruption and route flapping caused by standby/active switchovers, you can configure OSPF GR.

Improving Stability of an OSPF Network

You can improve the stability of an OSPF network to reduce route flapping on the network. This enables the devices to work in a normal state for an extended period of time.

Improving Stability of an OSPF Network

Improving the Security of an OSPF Network

In an OSPF network demanding high security, you can configure OSPF authentication and GTSM to improve the network security.
