Prohibiting an OSPF Interface from Sending and Receiving Protocol Packets

Context

To prevent devices on other networks from obtaining local OSPF routing information and to prevent the local device from receiving the routing update information advertised by other devices on the same network, you can prohibit an OSPF interface from sending and receiving protocol packets. Such a configured interface can continue to advertise its direct routes; however, Hello packets will be blocked. This ensures that no neighbor relationship can be set up through the interface, which enhances OSPF networking capabilities and reduces network resource consumption.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run ospf [ process-id ]

    The OSPF view is displayed.

  3. Run silent-interface { all | interface-type interface-number }

    An OSPF interface is prohibited from sending and receiving protocol packets.

    By default, an interface is allowed to send and receive protocol packets.

    You can prohibit an interface from sending and receiving OSPF packets in different OSPF processes, but the silent-interface command is valid only for the OSPF interface in the current process.
