Before configuring basic IPv6 PIM-DM functions, configure an IPv6 unicast routing protocol to ensure normal unicast routing on the IPv6 network.
After IPv6 PIM-DM is enabled on all the devices on an IPv6 PIM-DM network, they use the any-source multicast (ASM) model to provide multicast services for user hosts. User hosts in a multicast group can receive multicast data sent from any multicast source to this group.
IPv6 PIM-DM and IPv6 PIM-SM cannot be enabled simultaneously on a switch.
It is recommended that you enable IPv6 PIM-DM on all interfaces on an IPv6 PIM-DM network, so that the interfaces can establish neighbor relationships with all connected PIM devices.
If IPv6 PIM-DM and MLD need to be enabled on the same interface, enable IPv6 PIM-DM, and then enable Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD).

The high specification mode is configured for multicast forwarding.
In large-scale multicast applications, the switch generates a large number of IPv6 PIM routing entries. When the number of IPv6 PIM routing entries reaches the default limit, new IPv6 PIM routing entries cannot be generated. The high specification mode increases the number of IPv6 PIM routing entries supported on the switch. After this mode is configured, the number of IPv6 PIM routing entries can reach the maximum number supported by the switch, maximizing the switch's capability to support large-scale multicast applications.
Only the S5720-HI, S5730-HI, S5731-H, S5731S-H, S5732-H, S6720-HI, S6730S-H, and S6730-H support this command.
The configuration of high specification mode takes effect after a restart.
After the high specification mode is configured, the default interval for sending IPv6 PIM-DM State-Refresh messages changes from 60s to 255s.
After the high specification mode is configured, the default interval for sending IPv6 PIM-DM Join/Prune messages changes from 210s to 300s.
The IPv6 multicast routing function is enabled.
The interface view is displayed.
The interface is switched to Layer 3 mode.
By default, an Ethernet interface works in Layer 2 mode.
Only the S5720-EI, S5720-HI, S5730-HI, S5731-H, S5731-S, S5731S-H, S5731S-S, S5732-H, S6720-EI, S6720-HI, S6720S-EI, S6730-H, S6730S-H, S6730-S, and S6730S-S support switching between Layer 2 and Layer 3 modes.
IPv6 PIM-DM is enabled on the interface.
After IPv6 PIM-DM is enabled on all the interfaces in an IPv6 PIM domain, use the following commands to check information about IPv6 PIM interfaces, IPv6 PIM neighbors, and IPv6 PIM routing entries.
Run the display pim ipv6 interface [ interface-type interface-number | up | down ] [ verbose ] command to check IPv6 PIM information on an interface.
Run the display pim ipv6 neighbor [ ipv6-link-local-address | interface interface-type interface-number | verbose ] * command to check information about IPv6 PIM neighbors.
