The statistics collection function involves various statistics collection tasks, and each task can be bound to multiple statistics collection instances. After you create a statistics collection task, the system periodically collects data in the instances bound to the task and calculates the statistical counters in each statistics collection cycle. The statistics are saved to statistics files periodically.

The system uses FTP or SFTP to upload statistics files to a remote performance management (PM) server. Statistics files can be uploaded in either of the following modes:

• Active mode: The system periodically generates statistics files and automatically uploads the files to the PM server.

• Passive mode: The system periodically generates statistics files. When the system receives a file uploading instruction from the network management system (NMS) or a file uploading command is executed, the system uploads the statistics files to the PM server.

Using FTP to upload performance statistics files is insecure. Therefore, using SFTP is recommended.
