Network-Level Packet Loss Measurement

Network-level packet loss measurement includes the following scenarios:

End-to-End Packet Loss Measurement

In Figure 1, the target flow enters the network through Switch_1 and leaves the network through Switch_2. The target flow enters the network through one interface and leaves through another interface. iPCA network-level packet loss measurement can be configured on Switch_1 and Switch_2 to measure the packet loss ratio of the network.

In Figure 2, this network is an end-to-end network entirely composed of Huawei devices. The ingress and egress interfaces of the target flow are located on multiple edge devices. The total number of incoming packets on the network should be the same as the number of all outgoing packets. iPCA network-level packet loss measurement can be configured on edge devices Switch_1, Switch_2, Switch_3, Switch_4 to measure the packet loss ratio of the end-to-end network.

Regional Network Packet Loss Measurement

In Figure 3, an enterprise leases links on carrier's WAN to construct a regional network. iPCA needs to be configured on the egress Huawei devices on the branch and headquarters networks to measure the performance of the regional network. All traffic sent by egress devices to the WAN is the input traffic of the regional network, and all traffic received by Huawei devices from the WAN is the output traffic of the regional network. If the input traffic volume is higher than the output traffic volume, packet loss is occurring on the regional network.

Hop-by-Hop Packet Loss Measurement

In Figure 4, target flows enter the transit network through Switch_1, pass Switch_2, and leave the network through Switch_3. Configure hop-by-hop packet loss measurement on Switch_1, Switch_2, and Switch_3. When packet loss occurs on the transit network, you can collect packet loss statistics by dividing the network into multiple segments and locate the packet loss points.
