Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

After the software of the device is upgraded, if the configuration file on the storage device becomes incompatible with the new software, run the reset saved-configuration command to delete the configuration file.

When the configured device is used for another purpose and the existing configuration file of the device does not meet new requirements, run the reset saved-configuration command to clear the existing configuration file and re-configure the device.

This command is supported only by a physical system (PS).

Configuration Impact

When a user is saving the configuration file and another user is running this command, the configuration file is still not destroyed.

Before clearing the configuration file of the device, the system compares the configuration file used after the current startup with that used after the next startup of the system.

  • reset saved-configuration command clears the settings for both files. The default configuration file will be used for the next startup.
  • reset saved-configuration command clears the settings for the configuration file for the next startup, and the settings for the current configuration file are not cleared.
  • reset saved-configuration command clears the settings for the configuration file for the next startup.
  • reset saved-configuration command is run, the system prompts an error and no settings are cleared.

If you run the command to restart a device, addresses configured for management interfaces on the device will become invalid, and you have to log in to the device through a serial interface to re-configure the addresses.

Precautions

  • Exercise caution when using this command. You are advised to use this command under the guidance of technical support personnel.
  • During site migration or fault recovery, you can run the reset saved-configuration command or press the RST button to clear the configuration. After the configuration is cleared, if the device is powered on again without the .defcfg file, the device enters the first-login process. As a result, the device fails to go online through the plug-and-play function. Therefore, you need to check whether the device has the .defcfg file before clearing the configuration. If the device does not have the .defcfg file, perform the following steps:
  1. Create a .defcfg configuration file.
  2. For details about how to set the file content, see Configuration > Basic Configuration > Configuration Management > Managing Configuration Files > Default Configuration File for Empty Configuration Startup.
  3. Transfer the file to the device.
  4. Run the startup default-configuration command in the user view to set the configuration file as the default configuration file for the next startup.
  5. After the setting is successful, run the reset saved-configuration command or press the RST button to clear the configuration. After the device is restarted, the account specified in the .defcfg file is used to log in to the device.
