damp-interface level (interface view)

Function

The damp-interface level command configures a suppression level for a flapping interface.

The undo damp-interface level command restores the default setting.

By default, a flapping interface is suppressed at a light level.

Format

damp-interface level { light | middle | heavy | manual { half-life-period suppress reuse max-suppress-time } }

undo damp-interface level { middle | heavy | manual }

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
light

Indicates that a flapping interface is suppressed at a light level.

The values are as follows:
  • half-life-period: 11
  • suppress: 7700
  • reuse: 6000
  • max-suppress-time: 10
middle

Indicates that a flapping interface is suppressed at a middle level.

The values are as follows:
  • half-life-period: 16
  • suppress: 5500
  • reuse: 4300
  • max-suppress-time: 12
heavy

Indicates that a flapping interface is suppressed at a heavy level.

The values are as follows:
  • half-life-period: 25
  • suppress: 3500
  • reuse: 2700
  • max-suppress-time: 18
manual

Indicates that a flapping interface is manually suppressed.

The value ranges are as follows:
  • half-life-period: 1-60
  • suppress: 1-20000
  • reuse: 1-20000
  • max-suppress-time: 1-255
half-life-period

Specifies a half-life period for a penalty value.

The value is an integer ranging from 1 to 60, in seconds.

suppress

Specifies a suppression value, which is 1000 times the suppression threshold of an interface. The interface is suppressed when the penalty value (inceased by 1 each time the interface goes down) is greater than the suppression value.

The value is an integer ranging from 1 to 20000. The suppress value must be greater than the reuse value.

reuse

Specifies a reuse value, which is 1000 times the reuse threshold of an interface. The interface is no longer suppressed when the penalty value (inceased by 1 each time the interface goes down) is less than the reuse value.

The value is an integer ranging from 1 to 20000. The reuse value must be less than the suppress value.

max-suppress-time

Specifies the maximum suppression time.

The value is an integer ranging from 1 to 255, in seconds.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

Intermittent disconnection of an optical fiber connected to a physical interface causes the interface status to alternate frequently between Up and Down. The damp-interface function can suppress a flapping interface at the physical layer. Therefore, stability of the entire link layer and network layer is guaranteed. When damp-interface is enabled, run the damp-interface level command to configure a light, middle, or heavy suppression based on damp-interface requirements:

  • Light: If a light damp-interface is configured, status flapping suppression is triggered only when the interface flaps frequently and rapidly.
  • Heavy: If a heavy damp-interface is configured, status flapping suppression is triggered even if the interface does not flap severely. This is, a flapping interface tends to be easily suppressed.
  • Middle: Intensity of the middle damp-interface is between the light and heavy damp-interfaces.
  • Manual: When the light, middle, heavy levels fail to meet suppression requires, you can specify this parameter to manually control the suppression level.

Prerequisites

Status flapping suppression has been enabled on a physical interface using the damp-interface enable command.
