Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

IGMP snooping is used on a Layer 2 device running between a Layer 3 device and hosts, allowing the Layer 2 device to listen to the multicast protocol packets exchanged between the Layer 3 device and hosts. By listening to the multicast protocol packets, the Layer 2 device maintains a multicast forwarding table to manage and control multicast packet forwarding. You need to enable IGMP snooping before implementing Layer 2 multicast.

Configuration Impact

If the igmp-snooping enable vlan command is run more than once, all configurations take effect.

Precautions

The igmp-snooping enable vlan command may fail to be configured when the Dot1q sub-interface has been bound to the VLAN.
