Possible Causes

The device detected an invalid DHCP server using the bogus DHCP server detection function.

This function is used to detect bogus DHCP servers on user networks connected to the BAS interface.

Procedure

  • The procedure is as follows when the device sends a Discover packet:

1. The device searches for the first IFNET.

2. The device checks whether an interface can send detection packets. Only Layer 2 access interfaces and Layer 2 leased line access interfaces can send detection packets, with the interface type being PORT_ETHERNET, PORT_FASTETHERNET, PORT_GE, or PORT_ETH_TRUNK.

3. If the interface is qualified, the device constructs a Discover packet and sends it out through the interface. If the interface is unqualified, the device searches for the next IFNET+VLAN pair.

4. The device exits from cycling after processing five IFNET+VLAN pairs.

5. The device records the IFNET+VLAN pairs that it has walked through and starts traversing again from the current recorded interface the next time the timer expires.

  • The procedure is as follows when the device receives an Offer packet:

1. The device checks whether the packet's MAC address is the MAC address of the constructed bogus packet.

2. If the MAC addresses are the same, the device generates an alarm and records the IDs of the board, card, and interface receiving the bogus packet.
