Overview of Congestion Management and Avoidance

Definition

When a network is intermittently congested and latency-sensitive services require higher bandwidth than others, congestion management adjusts the order in which packets are scheduled.

Congestion avoidance is a mechanism for controlling congestion. It monitors network resources such as queues and memory buffers and discards packets when congestion occurs or worsens.
