Configuring L2TP Dual-Device Hot Backup

L2TP dual-device hot backup can be configured on LACs to improve L2TP access reliability. With L2TP dual-device hot backup, users can log in again without the need of re-dialing up if a network fault occurs. A RADIUS server cannot deliver the Tunnel-Client-Endpoint attribute during L2TP hot backup configuration.

Establishing a Multi-Device Backup Platform: A multi-device backup platform runs Huawei proprietary Redundancy User Information (RUI) protocol to back up user information between devices in a Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) group. This allows fast service switching to be performed if a network node or link fails, enhancing service reliability.

Setting a Base Value for an L2TP Tunnel ID: To implement L2TP dual-device hot backup in load balancing mode, a base value must be set on either of the master and backup routers to ensure unique tunnel IDs on the routers.

Configuring an L2TP Tunnel: An L2TP tunnel can be used to provide access services for enterprises, small ISPs, and the staff on business trips over a public network.

Enabling an L2TP RBS: To implement dual-device L2TP service hot backup, an RBS must be enabled on the devices that back up each other in the RBP view.

Controlling Advertisement of L2TP Hot Backup Routes: If L2TP hot backup is configured on LACs that work in load balancing mode, advertisement of L2TP hot backup routes can be controlled.

(Optional) Setting the Maximum Number of Users Allowed on an L2TP LAC: When L2TP LAC 2:1 hot backup is deployed, the maximum number of users allowed on an L2TP LAC can be set to 64K.

(Optional) Disabling L2TP Traffic Protection: In some L2TP hot backup scenarios, L2TP traffic protection can be disabled to prevent traffic switching from affecting customer services.
