Response to the RAR Message

  • Scenario 1

A session is established successfully and a user who has subscribed to a service updates the service or a trigger enables the new service to be effective.

  • Processing

The PCRF sends an RAR message to the PCEF. Upon receiving the RAR message, the PCEF immediately returns an RAA message to the PCRF, and then activates, deactivates, deploys, or removes the rule in the RAR message. If the operation fails, the PCEF sends a CCR-Update message to the PCRF.

  • Scenario 2

A session is established successfully and a user who has subscribed to a service updates the service or a trigger enables the new service to be effective. Upon receiving an RAR message, the PCEF returns an RAA message and detects that the link status is down.

  • Processing

The PCEF does not send an RAA message but remove the local session. In this case, the PCEF notifies the service module of the link status and the service module determines when to initiate a request for bringing a user online. If the PCRF does not receive the RAA message, the PCRF removes the local session.
