IPv4 address management includes IP address obtaining in different ways.
The NetEngine 8000 F allows a user to obtain an IP address in the following ways to access the network:
Obtaining an IP address dynamically
Users can use DHCP or IPCP (for PPP users) to obtain IP addresses from the address pool of the NetEngine 8000 F. After a user goes offline, the IP address previously assigned to this user can be assigned to another user.
Configuring a static IP address
A user can configure a static IP address on the computer. After the user goes offline, the static IP address cannot be assigned to other users.
Obtaining an IP address delivered by the RADIUS server
User IP addresses can be delivered by the RADIUS server to the NetEngine 8000 F in the Framed-IP-Address attribute. Users can use DHCP or IPCP (for PPP users) to interact with the NetEngine 8000 F to obtain IP addresses.
The NetEngine 8000 F can allocate address segments through IPCP. The gateway address and mask of the address segment must be delivered by the RADIUS server. Therefore, the NetEngine 8000 F can allocate a gateway and a mask to a home user. Multiple user terminals can connect to the gateway, and the terminals on the same network segment can communicate with each other.
