NAT64 Backup

NAT64 backup is used to back up service information on service processing boards (namely, service boards) equipped on a NAT64 device. The information backup helps prevent network or service interruptions resulted from device or link faults. NAT64 backup helps improve device availability and service reliability, which improves the stability of carrier networks.

Backup Between Boards on a Single Device

The location of a NAT64 device on the network is important and does not allow network interruption due to a single point of failure (on a board). Services on the NAT64 device must run properly.

In most cases, two boards are configured for a NAT64 instance for high reliability. The CPU on one board is the active CPU, whereas the CPU on the other board is the standby CPU. Hot standby is implemented. In this mechanism, the active NAT64 service board processes NAT64 user services, whereas the standby board is in the "listening" state. If the active board fails, the standby board takes over NAT64 user services.

The hot standby mechanism ensures data consistency between the active and standby boards. If a fault occurs on the active board, the system automatically performs an active/standby switchover and the standby board takes over services on the active boards. This ensures proper running of services and users cannot detect the fault.
