Overview of IPv4 Address Allocation and Management

Definition

IPv4 address allocation helps users obtain IP addresses. PPPoX and IPoX users obtain their IP addresses using different methods. A DHCP server also can allocate IP addresses to clients. Upon receipt of an Information-Request message from a DHCP client, the DHCP server returns a packet carrying the corresponding configuration information according to a specified policy.

IPv4 address management allows a BRAS to use address pools to manage IPv4 addresses, including allocating and renewing addresses, reclaiming DNS addresses, and providing a gateway address for access users.
