Modules

The Atom GNSS timing system includes two types of modules: Atom GNSS modules and clock/time processing modules on routers.

Atom GNSS timing involves two modules: Atom GNSS timing module and clock/time processing module on the router.

Atom GNSS Modules

  • GNSS antenna: receives signals from GNSS satellites.
  • GNSS receiver: processes GNSS RF signals and obtains frequency and time information from the GNSS RF signals.
  • Phase-locked loop (PLL):

    • Frequency PLL: locks the 1PPS reference clocks and outputs a high-frequency clock.

    • Analog PLL (APLL): multiplies the system clock to a higher frequency clock.
    • Time PLL: locks the UTC time and outputs the system time.
  • Real-time clock (RTC): provides real-time timestamps for PTP event messages.
  • PTP grandmaster (GM): functions as the SyncE slave to obtain SyncE clock data.

Clock/Time Processing Modules on routers

An Atom GNSS module must work in conjunction with clock/time processing modules to implement clock and time synchronization. routers support two types of clock/time processing modules:
  • SyncE Slave: This module is used to obtain SyncE clock data.
  • PTP BC: This module typically functions as a slave BC to process PTP messages and extract PTP information.
