Example for Configuring a DCI Scenario with a VXLAN EVPN Accessing MPLS EVPN IRBv6

This section provides an example for configuring a DCI scenario of EVLAN EVPN accessing MPLS EVPN IRBv6. In this example, DC-GWs are connected to the DCI backbone network over VXLAN tunnels and BGP EVPN is deployed on the DCI backbone network to achieve DC interworking.

Networking Requirements

On the network shown in Figure 1, DC-GW1 and DC-GW2 are connected to the DCI backbone network. BGP EVPN is deployed on the DCI backbone network and EVPN is deployed between the DC-GWs and the DCI-PEs to exchange VM host IPv6 routes over VXLAN tunnels implementing communication between DC A and DC B (such as the communication between VMa1 and VMb2).

Figure 1 Networking of a DCI scenario of VXLAN EVPN accessing MPLS EVPN IRBv6

Interfaces 1 and 2 in this example represent GE 0/1/0 and GE 0/1/8, respectively.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

  1. Configure OSPF on the DCI backbone network to implement communication between DCI-PEs.

  2. Configure an MPLS TE tunnel on the DCI backbone network.

  3. On each DCI-PE, configure a static route destined for the loopback interface address of the connected DC-GW.

  4. Configure an EVPN instance and a BD on each DCI-PE.

  5. Configure an EVPN source address on each DCI-PE.

  6. Configure the DCI-PEs to establish a BGP EVPN peer relationship with each other and with each DC-GW.

  7. Configure a VPN instance on each DCI-PE.

  8. Configure VXLAN tunnels between the DCI-PEs and DC-GWs.

  9. Apply a tunnel policy.

  10. Configure route regeneration on each DCI-PE.

Data Preparation

To complete the configuration, you need the following data:

  • MPLS LSR IDs of the DCI-PEs and P

  • RDs of VPN instances

  • Import and export VPN targets of VPN instances

  • RDs of EVPN instances

  • Import and export VPN targets of EVPN instances

Procedure

  1. Assign an IP address to each node interface, including the loopback interface.

For details about how to configure IP addresses and masks of interfaces, see Configuration Files in this section.

  2. Configure an IGP on the DCI backbone network. OSPF is used in this example.

For configuration details, see Configuration Files in this section.

  3. Configure an MPLS TE tunnel on the DCI backbone network.

For configuration details, see Configuration Files in this section.

  4. On each DCI-PE, configure a static route destined for the loopback interface address of the connected DC-GW.

For configuration details, see Configuration Files in this section.

  5. Configure an EVPN instance and a BD on each DCI-PE.

  12. Verify the configuration.

After completing the configurations, run the display ipv6 routing-table vpn-instance vpn1 command on each DCI-PE to view VPN routes. The following example uses the command output on DCI-PE1. The command output shows that the routes received from the connected DC-GW are recursed over the VXLAN tunnel and the routes received from the remote DCI-PE are recursed over the MPLS TE tunnel.
