Example for Configuring Coexistence of VPLS and EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE

This section provides an example for configuring coexistence of VPLS and EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE to ensure service continuity during the evolution from traditional VPLS to EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE.

Networking Requirements

On the network shown in Figure 1, traditional VPLS services have been deployed. A user wants to deploy EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE on PE1 and PE3 to carry new services. In this case, you need to configure the coexistence of VPLS and EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE on PE1 and PE3 to ensure that both old and new services can run properly.

Figure 1 Coexistence of VPLS and EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE

Interface 1, interface 2, and interface 3 in this example represent GE 0/1/0, GE 0/1/8, and GE 0/1/16, respectively.

Configuration Notes

When configuring the coexistence of VPLS and EVPN VPLS over SRv6 BE, note the following:

  • For the same EVPN instance, the export VPN target list of one site must contain the same VPN targets as those in the import VPN target lists of the other sites. Similarly, the import VPN target list of one site must contain the same VPN targets as those in the export VPN target lists of the other sites.

  • Using the local loopback interface address of each PE as an EVPN source address is recommended.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

  1. Configure an IGP on each device. Configure OSPF on PE1, PE2, and PE3 to implement IPv4 route interworking; configure IS-ISv6 on PE1 and PE3 to implement IPv6 interworking.
  2. Configure EVC VPLS on PE1, PE2, and PE3.
  3. Configure BD EVPN on PE1 and PE3.

  4. Configure SRv6 BE between PE1 and PE3.

Data Preparation

To complete the configuration, you need the following data:

  • Interface names and IP addresses of the devices

  • MPLS LSR IDs of the devices

  • Names, RDs, and VPN targets of the EVPN instances created on PE1 and PE3

  • Locator names, Arguments field lengths, and dynamically generated opcodes on PE1 and PE3

Procedure

  1. Assign an IP address to each interface according to Figure 1.

For configuration details, see Configuration Files in this section.

  2. Configure an IGP on each device.

Configure OSPF on PE1, PE2, and PE3 to implement IPv4 route interworking; configure IS-ISv6 on PE1 and PE3 to implement IPv6 route interworking.

  3. Configure an EVC to carry VPLS services.

For configuration details, see Configuration Files in this section. Run the display vsi name e1 verbose command on PE1. The command output shows that the VSI named e1 has separate PWs to PE2 and PE3, and the VSI status and PW status are up.
