TWAMP Applications on an L3 VXLAN

Statistics about the performance of various network segments can be collected based on the control-client's location on an L3 VXLAN.
  • When the control-client is located on the VXLAN:

    As shown in Figure 1, GW1 functions as the control-client and sends TWAMP statistics packets to initiate a TWAMP test for GW3. GW1 sends TWAMP statistics to the performance management system. The performance management system then obtains the user network interface to user network interface (UNI-UNI) performance statistics between GW1 and GW3.

  • When the control-client is not located on the VXLAN:

    As shown in Figure 2, DeviceA functions as the control-client and sends TWAMP statistics packets to initiate a TWAMP test for GW3. DeviceA sends TWAMP statistics to the performance management system. The performance management system then obtains the UNI-UNI performance statistics between DeviceA and GW3.
