VPN QoS is a mechanism that ensures each type of traffic gets specified bandwidth by means of bandwidth restriction and queue scheduling. VPN QoS allows different types of traffic to be scheduled based on service classes and VIP traffic to be preferentially transmitted during traffic congestion.
On the network shown in Figure 1, TE tunnels are established between PE1 and PE2.
The data traffic exchanged between PE1 and PE2 includes:
VPN traffic (traffic on VPN1 to VPNn)
Non-VPN traffic
Public network IP traffic not transmitted over the TE tunnels
Bandwidth preemption tends to occur among different types of traffic. To ensure QoS, configure bandwidth restriction to ensure that each type of traffic is assigned pre-specified bandwidth.
