Setting Optical Power Alarm Thresholds

Context

You can set optical power alarm so that the device generates alarms if the transmit or receive power of an optical module exceeds a threshold. An alarm may indicate that the optical module is faulty.

The default optical power alarm thresholds of an optical module are fixed and cannot be changed. These thresholds are determined through extensive testing and verification. You can configure alarm thresholds but they must be within the default range. However, this is not recommended. If an optical power alarm is generated, the first step of troubleshooting is to check the optical module and connected fibers.

  • You are advised to use Huawei-certified optical modules. If non-Huawei-certified optical modules are used, incorrect optical module information may be obtained during the query of optical power information.

Procedure

  1. (Optional) Run display transceiver [ interface interface-type interface-number | slot slot-id ] [ verbose ]

    Conventional, manufacturing, and alarm information about the optical module on a specified interface is displayed.

  2. (Optional) Run display transceiver diagnosis interface [ interface-type interface-number ]

    Diagnostic information about the optical module on a specified interface is displayed.

  3. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  4. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  5. Run transceiver diagnosis threshold rx-power { default | low-alarm low-alarm high-alarm high-alarm }

    Upper and lower alarm thresholds are set for the receive power of the optical module on the interface.

  6. Run transceiver diagnosis threshold tx-power { default | low-alarm low-alarm high-alarm high-alarm }

    Upper and lower alarm thresholds are set for the transmit power of the optical module on the interface.
