Overview of Intelligent Video O&M

Definition

To implement intelligent video operations and maintenance (O&M), enable a switch to periodically send performance data to a network management system (NMS), including interface traffic statistics, CPU or memory data, optical module information, and monitoring information about audio and video streams. The NMS processes received performance data, analyzes fault causes, and provides troubleshooting suggestions. It also completes health status check for the network, applications, and services, as well as implements fault pre-processing.

An intelligent video O&M system consists of the NMS, iMaster NCE-Campus, and switches. In the intelligent video O&M solution, switches can be deployed independently or through the iMaster NCE-Campus. The NMS can be Huawei's CampusInsight or eSight. When eSight is used, switches can only be deployed independently.

Intelligent video O&M can be used in the O&M management design of the CloudCampus Solution.

Purpose

As networks expand in scale and support a growing number of services, users have higher requirements on network O&M. For this reason, O&M personnel need to find a way to quickly locate networks faults once they occur.

Traditional network key performance indicators (KPIs) can reflect changes to the quality of network services, but cannot directly represent specific service experience changes let alone allow uses to determine network quality. O&M personnel often find that network KPIs are good but user experience is poor. However, traditional manual O&M methods are unable to address such issues. Intelligent video O&M allows the NMS to measure real user experience using quantitative KPIs and use them as monitoring indicators to generate alarms in a timely manner. In this way, the NMS can pre-process faults before they are perceived by users, improving user satisfaction and reducing the network operating expense (OPEX).
