Configuring the Upper and Lower Alarm Thresholds for IGMP/MLD Entries

Context

A switch supports a limited number of Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) or Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) entries. After the number of IGMP/MLD entries reaches the maximum value, no more IGMP/MLD entries can be created. As a result, some multicast traffic cannot be forwarded. To facilitate network operations and maintenance, configure the upper and lower alarm thresholds for IGMP/MLD entries. IGMP/MLD entry alarms and clear alarms help you learn IGMP/MLD entry usage in a timely manner. You can adjust the alarm thresholds for IGMP/MLD entries based on service requirements.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run multicast-mib

The multicast management information base (MIB) view is displayed.

  3. Run mgmd total-number threshold-alarm upper-limit upper-limit-value lower-limit lower-limit-value

The upper and lower alarm thresholds for IGMP/MLD entries are set.

    • upper-limit-value specifies the upper alarm threshold. If the proportion of existing IGMP/MLD entries in all instances to the maximum number reaches this threshold, an IGMP/MLD entry alarm is reported for all VPN instances.
    • lower-limit-value specifies the lower alarm threshold. If the proportion of existing IGMP/MLD entries in all instances to the maximum number falls below this threshold, an IGMP/MLD entry clear alarm is reported for all VPN instances.
    • upper-limit-value must be larger than lower-limit-value.

    By default, upper-limit-value is 80% and lower-limit-value is 75%.
