Configuring the Upper and Lower Alarm Thresholds for Multicast Forwarding Entries

Context

A switch supports a limited number of multicast forwarding entries. After the number of multicast forwarding entries reaches the maximum value, no more multicast forwarding entries can be created. As a result, some multicast traffic cannot be forwarded. To facilitate network operations and maintenance, configure the upper and lower alarm thresholds for multicast forwarding entries. Multicast forwarding entry alarms and clear alarms help you learn multicast forwarding entry usage in a timely manner. You can adjust the alarm thresholds for multicast forwarding entries based on service requirements.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run multicast-mib

The multicast management information base (MIB) view is displayed.

  3. Run multicast forwarding-table source-group-number threshold-alarm upper-limit upper-limit-value lower-limit lower-limit-value

The upper and lower alarm thresholds for multicast forwarding entries are configured.

    • upper-limit-value specifies the upper alarm threshold. If the proportion of existing multicast forwarding entries to the maximum number reaches this threshold, a multicast forwarding entry alarm is reported.
    • lower-limit-value specifies the lower alarm threshold. If the proportion of existing multicast forwarding entries to the maximum number falls below this threshold, a multicast forwarding entry clear alarm is reported.
    • upper-limit-value must be larger than lower-limit-value.

    By default, upper-limit-value is 80% and lower-limit-value is 75%.
