Setting the Aging Time of Dynamic Router Ports

Context

Router ports send Report messages to upstream Layer 3 multicast devices and receive multicast data packets from upstream devices. After MLD snooping is configured on a switch, the switch dynamically learns router ports and monitors upstream multicast data forwarding in real time. When network congestion or flapping occurs, dynamic router ports cannot receive Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) General Query or Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) Hello messages before it times out. The switch then deletes these router ports from the router port list, causing service interruption. To prevent this problem, set a longer aging time.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run vlan vlan-id

    The VLAN view is displayed.

  3. Run mld-snooping router-aging-time router-aging-time

The aging time is configured for dynamic router ports.

By default, the aging time of router ports learned from MLD Query messages is 180 seconds and the aging time of those learned from PIM Hello messages is the Holdtime value in PIM Hello packets.
