The switch supports the following Smart Link and Monitor Link features: basic functions of Smart Link, load balancing, link switching notification to the VPLS/VLL module, and basic functions of Monitor Link.
Table 1 describes the Smart Link and Monitor Link configuration tasks.
Scenario |
Description |
Task |
---|---|---|
Configure basic functions of Smart Link |
Basic functions of Smart Link can be configured to implement active/standby link redundancy and switching, improving network reliability. |
|
Configure load balancing in a Smart Link group |
Load balancing improves link efficiency. |
|
Configure Smart Link to notify the VPLS/VLL module of link switching events NOTE:
Only the S5720-EI, S5720-HI, S5730-HI, S5731-H, S5731-S, S5731S-H, S5731S-S, S5732-H, S6720-EI, S6720-HI, S6720S-EI, S6730-H, S6730S-H, S6730-S, and S6730S-S support this function. |
When Smart Link is used in VPLS or VLL networking, the link switching notification function enables the VPLS/VLL module to quickly detect link switching events, which minimizes data loss. |

Configure Monitor Link |
Monitor Link monitors an uplink interface on a device and triggers Up/Down state transitions on downlink interfaces in accordance with state changes on the uplink interface. State transitions on the downlink interfaces then trigger link switching of the topology protocol on the downstream device. |
