Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

MLD snooping runs on a Layer 2 device between a Layer 3 multicast device and user hosts. The Layer 2 device maintains forwarding entries of multicast packets by listening to multicast protocol packets exchanged between the Layer 3 device and user hosts. In this manner, the Layer 2 device manages and controls the forwarding of multicast data packets. Enabling MLD snooping is the prerequisite for implementing Layer 2 multicast. You can run the mld-snooping enable command to enable MLD snooping in a specified VLAN.

To enable MLD snooping globally or in a VLAN/VSI, run the mld-snooping enable command.

Note:

  • Running the mld-snooping enable command in the system view enables MLD snooping globally. If you run the undo mld-snooping enable command in the system view, MLD snooping is disabled on the entire device.
  • Running the mld-snooping enable or mld-snooping disable command in the VLAN/VSI view enables or disables MLD snooping in the VLAN/VSI. MLD snooping can be enabled in a VLAN or VSI only after MLD snooping is enabled globally. After MLD snooping is enabled in the system view, MLD snooping is still disabled in a VLAN or VSI by default.

Precautions

The command fails to be run in a VLAN view in any of the following conditions:

  • A dot1q termination sub-interface is added to the VLAN.
  • The mld-snooping enable command configuration for a VLAN conflicts with the mld on-demand command configuration for a VLANIF interface.

Example

# Enable MLD snooping in VLAN 2.
<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] mld-snooping enable
[~HUAWEI] vlan 2
[*HUAWEI-vlan2] mld-snooping enable
