Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

MLD snooping runs on a Layer 2 device that is deployed between a Layer 3 device and user hosts. The Layer 2 device can then maintain multicast forwarding entries by listening to multicast protocol messages transmitted between the upstream device and hosts, controlling multicast data packet forwarding. Enabling MLD snooping is the prerequisite for implementing Layer 2 multicast.

Precautions

The mld-snooping enable vlan command fails to be run in a VLAN view in any of the following conditions:

  • A dot1q termination sub-interface is added to the VLAN.
  • The MLD snooping configuration for a VLAN conflicts with the mld on-demand command configuration for a VLANIF interface.

Example

# Enable MLD snooping for multiple VLANs.
<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] mld-snooping enable
[*HUAWEI] vlan batch 2 to 10
[*HUAWEI] mld-snooping enable vlan 2 to 10
