pwsignal bgp multi-homing

Function

The pwsignal bgp multi-homing command enables VPLS multi-homing.

The undo pwsignal bgp multi-homing command disables VPLS multi-homing.

By default, VPLS multi-homing is disabled.

Format

pwsignal bgp multi-homing

undo pwsignal bgp multi-homing

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
bgp

Indicates that the VSI uses the BGP signaling for negotiation and PW establishment. A VSI that uses the automatic member discovery mechanism must use the BGP signaling.

-

multi-homing

Indicates VPLS multi-homing.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

To deliver high-reliability services over a VPLS network, carriers usually dual-home a CE to two PEs through redundant links. While providing link-level protection, the dual-homing mechanism also brings in the risk of routing loops. To prevent routing loops in multi-homing scenarios, you can deploy VPLS multi-homing on PEs.

In scenarios where Huawei and non-Huawei devices communicate with each other, configure VSIs and run the pwsignal bgp multi-homing command to enable VPLS multi-homing. Other VPLS multi-homing configurations can then be performed.

Prerequisites

A VSI has been created or the VSI view is displayed using the vsi vsi-name command.

Configuration Impact

In a VPLS multi-homing scenario where multiple CEs are single-homed to a PE, after you run the pwsignal bgp multi-homing command on the PE and specify the VSI RD, a multi-homing site is automatically generated on the PE. This site can be used by all the single-homing CEs. After the default multi-homing site is created, run the site default command to access the default VSI-BGP-SITE view.

Follow-up Procedure

  • Run the route-distinguisher (VSI-BGP-MH view) command to configure an RD for the VSI.
  • Run the vpn-target (VSI-BGP-MH view) command to configure VPN targets for the VSI.
  • Run the site command to create a VPLS multi-homing site or run the site default command to enter the default VSI-BGP-SITE view.

Precautions

  • The pwsignal bgp multi-homing command applies only to scenarios where Huawei and non-Huawei devices communicate with each other
  • Configuring both VPLS multi-homing and BGP VPLS is not recommended. If so, BGP may not select an optimal route, and subsequently the PW is not established as planned.
  • VPLS multi-homing described in this document cannot work together with VPLS multi-homing defined in the draft-ietf-bess-vpls-multihoming standard.

Example

# Enable VPLS multi-homing for the VSI named vsi1.
<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] mpls
[*HUAWEI-mpls] quit
[*HUAWEI] mpls l2vpn
[*HUAWEI-l2vpn] quit
[*HUAWEI] vsi vsi1
[*HUAWEI-vsi-vsi1] pwsignal bgp multi-homing
