set negotiation-mode

Function

The set negotiation-mode command configures the clock on a GE electrical interface to work at the physical layer.

The undo set negotiation-mode slave command restores the default configuration.

By default, the clock on a GE electrical interface works in auto-negotiation mode at the physical layer.

This command is supported only on the NetEngine 8000 F1A.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

When you deploy synchronous Ethernet and you want a GE electrical interface to work as the tracking clock source for the current device or candidate clock source for the current device, the clock of the GE electrical interface must work in slave mode at the physical layer. The working mode can be displayed using the display negotiation-mode command. Run the set negotiation-mode slave command only on the GE electrical interface but not on the connected interface.

The set negotiation-mode slave command takes effect only when the connected interfaces meet the following conditions:

GE electrical interfaces

Rate of 1 Gbit/s

In auto-negotiation mode

Not in loopback mode

Configuration Impact

After you run the set negotiation-mode or undo set negotiation-modecommand to change the working mode of the clock of an interface at the physical layer, the interface resets and renegotiates the working mode of its clock with the connected interface.

If the set negotiation-mode command is configured on one interface but not on the connected interface, the clock of the interface works in slave mode, and the clock of the connected interface works in master mode at the physical layer.

If the set negotiation-mode command is configured on two connected interfaces or on neither of the interfaces, the interfaces automatically negotiate the working mode of their clocks at the physical layer, and the negotiation result is indefinite.

Precautions

This command is used to set the master/slave mode of a port. The configured value may not be the actual value. For example, when users specify the working mode to master for both interconnected ports, the ports have to negotiate their working modes so that one of them works in master mode and the other works in slave mode. Users can view the negotiation result using the display negotiation command, or view the specified working mode using the display this command.

When Huawei-supplied devices are interconnected, users only need to specify the working mode to slave for the downstream clock port. This setting ensures that the working mode agrees with the clock tracing relationships. When a Huawei-supplied device and a third-party device are interconnected, specify the working mode to master for the port on the Huawei-supplied device if it is upstream to the third-party device.

The support of this command depends on the actual device.
