encapsulation vpls-family-compatible

Function

The encapsulation vpls-family-compatible command configures a Huawei device to use encapsulation type 4 or 5 for BGP VPLS packets, depending on whether the user access mode is VLAN or Ethernet.

The undo encapsulation vpls-family-compatible command restores the default configuration.

By default, a Huawei device uses the encapsulation type defined in relevant standards for BGP VPLS packets.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

By default, Huawei VRPv8 devices implement BGP VPLS based on related standards, and the encapsulation type of VPLS packets is 19. Huawei VRPv5 devices implement BGP VPLS based on Huawei-proprietary encapsulation types. In VLAN mode, the encapsulation type is 4. In Ethernet mode, the encapsulation type is 5. To enable a Huawei VRPv8 device to communicate with a Huawei VRPv5 device, run the encapsulation vpls-family-compatible command to convert the encapsulation type.

When a device sends packets, you can run the encapsulation vpls-family-compatible command to change the encapsulation type from 19 to 4 or 5. When the device receives packets, it can automatically convert the encapsulation type without command control.

The packet encapsulation mode on an AC interface is determined by the user access mode. User access modes are classified into VLAN access and Ethernet access.

  • VLAN access: Ethernet frames transmitted between CEs and PEs carry a VLAN tag. The tag is a service delimiter required by an ISP to differentiate users and is called a provider tag (P-tag).
  • Ethernet access: The Ethernet frame header transmitted between a CE and a PE does not contain any service delimiter. If the header contains a VLAN tag, the tag is the inner VLAN tag of the user packet and is meaningless to the PE. The inner VLAN tag of a user packet is called a user-tag (U-tag).

The VSI-BGP view has been displayed using the pwsignal bgp command.
