MAP-T/MAP-E Packet Processing
IPv6 single-stack is deployed on networks within a MAP domain. Service traffic sent by IPv6 terminals is carried over native IPv6.
To carry service traffic of IPv4 terminals, an IPv6 tunnel is established between a MAP-CE and a MAP-BR or between MAP-CEs. IPv4 packets can be encapsulated in either MPA-E or MAP-T mode:
- MAP-T: a translation mode that translates an IPv4 header into an IPv6 header. Packets contain only an IPv6 header.
- MAP-E: an encapsulation mode that adds an IPv6 header into each IPv4 packet. The IPv6 header is outer, and the IPv4 header is inner.
