(Optional) Setting the Aging Time for Entries Triggered by Multicast Traffic

Setting the aging time for Layer 2 multicast forwarding entries triggered by multicast traffic can balance the forwarding efficiency and system performance.

Context

If a multicast source does not send multicast data for some multicast groups, the (S, G) entries of those groups need to be deleted. To delete those (S, G) entries, the device continuously checks whether the source is sending out flows, which wastes resources and deteriorates performance of the device. To resolve this issue, set the aging time for entries triggered by multicast traffic. Then, if the device does not receive any multicast data from a multicast source to a multicast group within the aging time, the device deletes the multicast entry.

Before setting the aging time for entries triggered by multicast traffic, enable MLD snooping both globally and in a specified VLAN or VSI view.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Perform either of the following operations based on the VLAN or VPLS networking scenario:

    • Run the vlan vlan-id command to enter the VLAN view.

    • Run the vsi vsi-name [ static ] command to enter the VSI view.

  3. Run l2-multicast ipv6 source-lifetime lifetime

The aging time is set for entries triggered by multicast traffic in the VLAN or VSI.

  4. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
