You can configure a device to function as a GR Helper to help a neighbor with the LDP GR process.
In LDP GR, a Restarter, with the help of the Helper, ensures uninterrupted forwarding during an active main board (AMB)/standby main board (/SMB) switchover or when a protocol is restarted.
Without GR, during an AMB/SMB switchover or a system upgrade, the peers may tear down LSPs because an LDP session goes Down. This causes short-time traffic interruptions. With LDP GR, the labels are the same after the unexpected AMB/SMB switchover or a protocol restart. In addition, the LDP session and LSP can be restored after the AMB/SMB switchover or system upgrade, which helps transmit MPLS traffic properly without interruptions.
LDP only supports the GR Helper.
