Configuring a VPWS to Access the Public Network or an L3VPN

This section describes how to configure a VPWS to access the public network or an L3VPN. To achieve this, you can deploy a VPWS on the access network.

Usage Scenario

On the network shown in Figure 1, to enable a user to access the public network or an MPLS L3VPN through an MPLS L2VPN, deploy a VPWS on the access network.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring a VPWS to access an L3VPN, complete the following tasks:

  • Connect interfaces and configure their physical parameters for these interfaces to go Up at the physical layer.

  • Enable an IGP on the MPLS access network for IP connectivity.

  • Enable MPLS L2VPN on UPEs and NPEs.

  • Create L2VPN tunnels between UPEs and NPEs.

  • For LDP PWs: create LDP sessions between UPEs and NPEs.

  • For BGP PWs: create BGP sessions between UPEs and NPEs.

  • Create remote LDP sessions if NPEs and UPEs are not directly connected.

  • Enable an IGP on the MPLS bearer network for IP connectivity.

  • Configure basic L3VPN functions on NPEs.
